Senior Pride

Mission

Wingspan's Senior Program strives to recognize and respond to the unique concerns of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender elders (age 55+) by creating volunteer, social, and educational opportunities for older LGBT people, increasing awareness of LGBT aging issues, and developing age appropriate, LGBT friendly information and referral services.

Activities

Wingspan's Senior Program serves members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community who are 55+ and their younger allies. Senior Program volunteers assist with all Wingspan programs.

Senior Pride Volunteers

Senior Pride volunteers create social events, such as: potlucks, movies, game nights and picnics; organize educational opportunities for seniors: computer coaching or readings by local authors; host timely forums on topics of interest to their peers, like: Medicare changes and legal issues; and strengthen all other Wingspan programs by sharing their expertise.

Rainbow Train volunteers

Rainbow Train volunteers are specially trained to conduct educational cultural competency trainings for individuals and agencies providing service to older adults. Their trainings support providers in becoming better able to meet the unique needs of LGBT seniors and increase the visibility of older LGBT persons because they act as ambassadors in the larger community.

Rainbow Train Trainings are available by appointment, call 624-1779. x122

Information and Referral Services

Information and Referral services provide information related to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender elder issues to the community. Seniors may call (624-1779) or visit Wingspan for resource lists, access the Info Link on the Wingspan website, www.wingspan.org or check out books, videos and magazines of interest from Wingspan's lending library.

Referrals to elder services are always provided. If we can't help, we know who can!
